ABC’s preventive services program, All Children’s House, serves children from birth to age 5—those at highest risk for morbidity and mortality resulting from abuse and neglect. Their families are among New York City’s most fragile, having experienced complex and compounded - and often multi-generational - trauma.

All Children’s House builds child-parent attachment to help shield children against the extreme strains of poverty and complex trauma, keeping them safe and preventing abuse and neglect. The goals of the program are to: (1) provide families with the tools needed to break the cycles of abuse and neglect and promote long-term stability, (2) increase families’ self-sufficiency by helping them develop advocacy skills and access resources, and (3) improve their general health and wellbeing.

All Children’s House is the first program in New York City to fully convert its entire preventive services to the Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) model. Offered in the home by licensed therapists, CPP is an evidence-based therapeutic intervention method that strengthens child-parent attachment, parental empathy, and resilience in families, helping to break cycles of abuse and neglect and promote long-term stability. Case management services, therapists provide family counseling, parent support groups, budgeting management, legal assistance, and housing and child care referrals are also provided. Due to the program’s effectiveness, ABC was invited by New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) to replicate its program in an additional site in the South Bronx, and to begin offering services to an additional 120 families in Manhattan and the South Bronx who are already court-involved.

DURING THE Last PROGRAM YEAR...

  • All Children’s House served over 200 children and over 100 families.

  • Out of all families served, 87% reduced their risk of child abuse and neglect. 96% of families who completed services improved their general risk profile.

  • 94% of our families remained intact at the end of the year (compared to the citywide rate of 79.6%).
