ABC was honored to receive a visit from the Senior Minister of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and representatives of the Singapore Ministry of Education. Children at the Graham School – located at Echo Park, ABC’s multi-service hub in the heart of East Harlem – welcomed the group with hugs, play-dough demonstrations, and handmade Singaporean flags. The visit marked the beginning of an exchange between Singapore agencies and ABC to share best practices in early childhood education for families with young children who face complex and compounded barriers to accessing education.
ABC’s early childhood model is grounded in a “whole family” approach that offers interventions and services not only for children, but also parents and caregivers, who are a child’s first teachers. ABC’s programs incorporate evidence-based models and assessments, data-driven outcome indicators, and comprehensive supports that help children build the core skills they need for school readiness and a lifelong love of learning.
All of us at ABC look forward to working with Singapore agencies to ensure a joyful and rigorous education for the youngest and most vulnerable children.
