In response to the urgent needs of ABC families and the East Harlem community, ABC’s family support programs provide a wide range of services to isolated, destitute families, many of whom are recent immigrants.

The Open Door in East Harlem is ABC’s family resource center that provides family-strengthening activities for disconnected families and supportive programs for parents including computer and job training workshops, English as a Second Language classes, coursework for the General Equivalency High School diploma, assistance with earning citizenship, and domestic violence support groups. Open Door also provides preparedness planning and immigration workshops to staff and immigrant families to help them access safe and free immigration and legal services.

The Saturday Program offers a safe refuge for children and families from all across the city and provides nutritious meals for all participants. While children participate in fun-filled activities involving music, sports, cooking, arts, and dance, parents can access various skills building workshops and parent trainings.

DURING THE 2016-17 PROGRAM YEAR...

  • Open Door served 330 families.
  • The Saturday Program served an average of 139 children and adults every week,
  • ...and provided over 3,220 nutritious meals.
