Job Training And Employment Programs

Recognizing that our parents want to be “the providers” for themselves and for their children, ABC has developed comprehensive, successful employment training programs in the food service industry and child care profession. By working with respect and dignity and by teaching skills needed to secure full-time jobs, ABC's employment programs empower families to become independent and self-sufficient.

Baked in the 'Hood
ABC's innovative Baked in the 'Hood program prepares its trainees to secure permanent employment in the baking, catering and food service industries. The Baked in the 'Hood curriculum offers formal classroom instruction enhanced by special workshops taught by some of New York City's most accomplished and renowned chefs. Supervised on-the-job apprenticeships and hands-on internships complete their course work. Emphasizing skills training and job readiness, Baked in the Hood is a sweet recipe for success.

68 trainees participated last year. A Baked in the 'Hood library of cooking and baking books is being developed by the Library Committee in the tech room. It also includes monthly magazine subscriptions to Gourmet, Bon Appetit and other cooking and baking publications.

In Good Hands
Working closely with ABC's family service programs, In Good Hands is ABC's on-the-job training program for ABC parents seeking careers as early childhood, respite and child care professionals. In Good Hands is an effective pathway for parents who, with a good deal of experience raising their own children, choose to seek professional training. Its trainees receive instruction, career counseling and hands-on supervised apprenticeships that can lead to permanent employment in the child care and early childhood professions.
